I've seen some of the lightweight backpacking fraternity make toilet trowels from MSR Blizzard stakes, this is the same idea but with a cheaper Alpkit Ankkor stake.
Take one Alpkit Ankkor
Measure and mark 140mm from the end on each of the "wings"
Place a round object on your mark and draw a curve up to the ridge of the stake
Mark a cut line at each side to get you close to your final width
Roughly cut out the excess with a hack saw
Place in a vice and file the edges smooth
Five minutes of filing and you should have something like
I thought about drilling some holes into the "handle" section but I think I prefer to keep the structural strength rather than shed a gram or two.
It's solid and should make a great poop trowel as well as a backup stake for sand or snow, another good thing is the fact it only weighs in at 64g.
(Nick & Jim @ Alpkit - sorry if you see this but I promise I won't hack up the other three)
