D Rings

Is there such a thing as a plastic D ring that opens and closes for easy placing on and off things?

D rings are normally solid. i guess the only way to attach stuff would be to attach crabs to the D ring or half hitch a loop through the ring...

It was to attach to the webbing on a rucsac shoulder straps.

Suppose i could just cut the straight bit as i've done before and tape the cut but wondered if there were any that had a way of opening and closing securely.

Grimlocks are what you want - you don't need to cut the straps

Grimlocks are a bit bulky for me.

What a about a D shaped shackle, you could probably get these from a chandler? Alternatively a D shaped gated carabiner?

Probably not as versatile as you are looking for, though.
