Just came across this really indepth guide to tarp shapes. Very interesting indeed.... ive got a DDXL Tarp how would you guys set it up for ground based sleeping? (bivvy of course)

yeah some are a bit daft... with such a big tarp i kind of like the idea of making a origami special!

i've seen a very similar article on a tarps before, some really good ideas, even if a lot of them are a little complicated.

I think if you're going to use a tarp for anything other than a quick set up shelter for the night you might as well get a tent or gazebo...Seems to defeat the whole object of a quick & easy shelter.

Interesting - a lot of it I cannot see the point of (re speedy shelter) but some is very practical!

There was a link to this on here a while ago, and I agree that most of the fancier version are a bit pointless. However I do like, and have one or twice used the Adirondack Wind Shed..

some of these are good idea's, but some of the "securing points" on these setup's are daft, my tarps have the normal loop's etc, but some of the more complicated designs need x3 times more securing points.

Plus its just giving more room for error.... Wind picks up in middle of night, complicated tarp setup turns into a Kite hahaha
