Having been on the dole for a while I had to go on a "Finding and getting a job" course, I recently got a job and went back to the training centre so they could record me as a successful candidate.

What I'd forgotten was that when you get a job they give you a £10 voucher, so I went straight to Waterstone's and bought these bad boys that I'd had my eye on for a while, but couldn't afford £10 on non essential items. They will accompany me on many future outings.

Whats a job?

They keep on going on about them at college but no one seems to have one.

Bar the Tutors perhaps, and I dont think `they` have jobs, Ive heard people who have jobs are unhappy and the Tutors seem very content.

Except when someones mobile goes off in class.

No offence tengu, but that attitude is disgraceful.

There are three ways of getting money in the world, stealing it, earning it or have it given to you. Stealing it is illegal. By earning it, you pay your own way in the world, but also you contribute to the society that cares for you when you are sick and protects you from danger and also you help to pay for those who cant help themselves. Most importantly, having a job brings you self-respect and dignity. Lastly, having money given to you, in whatever form, means you are living off the sweat, kindness or generosity of others less parasitic than yourself. If that is the way you choose to live, at least have the decency to be humble about it.

Congratulations on the new job. I remember how I found it hard to find a job. When I got mine (been in it now for about 11 years which is unusualy these days) it was great. The job is not what it was when I joined and for the last few years I looked for something else but I appear to be institutionalised here now. Great on the job security front but I hate it with a passion. Still I can do the work in my sleep and we are the busiest we've ever been in those 10-11 years and are actually expanding (80% of our stuff is into export too). Sorry if this is insensitive to those looking for work but just thought I would say once you get something keep it as it is not easy for jobs now. Like with my job even if it isn't ideal it is better than nothing. A job feeds, clothes and shelters you. It also allows you to do things you want to do for leisure. The one thing I know from signing on and looking for work myself it is the just surviving thing being unemployed meant. I was not able to do a lot of the stuff I wanted or go anywhere that far. IMHO a less than ideal but secure job is better than a job that is perfect but without security. I will one day move to a better job but will wait until UK is doing better.

To all those looking for work good luck and to R3XXY good luck in your new job, when do you start or have you started? My sis hs just started on Monday a new job after having two kids. He job is summat like telling a load of people what to do, most if not all of whom are men. No change there then, its the same thing she does all the time anyway. She has found her perfect job I think.

Tengu - a job will happen to you one day. I'm sure you will be on here moaning about your boring job one day. I'm also sure there won't be a hint of a smirk on people's faces upon reading it. Enjoy college it never lasts long enough IME. Done two Unis /degrees as I missed it and wanted to avoid work but it hits us all one day.
