I just wanted to give users a heads up about some great service I’ve just received. After eventually getting a job I treated myself to an LED upgrade for my old 6D MagLite. I bought it from The Torch Site (http://www.thetorchsite.co.uk/). Great price, great service all the usual stuff you hope for and I was completely satisfied.

A couple of weeks later I used it for the first time in anger, great, then I went and dropped it a couple of feet onto a concrete floor, it slipped out of rucksack. The peculiar impact along the length of the torch punched the LED completely off the mount. I was, er, cheesed off to say the least. It was completely my fault, but I asked The Torch Site if they had a service department that might be able to help, my soldering skills being more plumbing related. They said they’d have a go.

Today I received a note saying it was goosed, but they had a replacement, that was without packaging kicking about, and I could have it gratis!

Now I’m sure they wouldn’t want me advertising free stuff, but regardless of that, the service was outstanding – nice people, thank you Alun.

Usual caveats, no connection, just very a happy customer.

That is quite outstanding service!

I see that they sell the excellent Terralux LED upgrade for the Mini Maglite AA, these are well worth investing in as they transform the Maglite beyond belief!

I've just upgraded the first of three new Mini Maglite AA's to the Terralux TLE-5EX and fitted the XCape Cap Glass Breaker Tail Cap (which I imported, along with the Terralux).

These improvements make the Mini Maglite AA far more versatile, especially for those that spend a lot of time on public transport. The second and third converted AA's are gifts for my little crew member and her father.

The shipping costs for the Terralux TLE-5EX LED upgrade kit and XCape Cap Glass Breaker Tail Cap, which I bought as a set, here, came to $5:00.

The total purchase and shipping costs in Sterling (including the debit card £/$ transaction fee) came to £29:00, and delivery was about a week.

The service was excellent and the items were well packed. The Xcape is available without the Terralux upgrade, item number: 350365795540 on eBay.com.

The honest answer is... I don't know!... Yet!

I've not tried it out other than for short distances, as I use my Fenix P3D for longer range. I intend to run a comparison with a straight out of the pack Mini Maglite AA and a Terralux upgrade on another (straight out of the pack) Mini Maglite AA.

I'll take some pics of the bits and pieces when I get them and I'll try to get some pics of the beams in a side by side shot.

Getting the Mini Maglite AA set of torch, 2 Duracell batteries and a fabric belt holster for £7:00 (in Brick Lane Market) makes the whole (new) set up a very reasonable £36:00.

There's also the original tail cap and 2 Maglite bulbs to sell/trade/donate, as desired.
