Here's a damascus blade knife that Mark made for me.
What can I say? It's absolutely amazing! I think the pictures speak for themselves.
It was a real pleasure working with Mark/Hillbill. We talked about the design and handle materials and sheath. And then I got it in the post a couple of days ago. I cannot recommend his work highly enough.
The blade is made from damascus steel, and is 3 3/4" in length. The handle is made from Walnut and is 4 1/4". The edge is RAZOR sharp. I mean, REALLY dead sharp!
I'm sure he will give more details for anyone wanting to know.
If you are looking for a bespoke knife then I can't think of anyone else who you'd want to go to.
Incredible work.
Anyway. Here's some pictures (sorry they're only links - for some reason I continually have problems having the pictures in the post. So if anyone could post them up instead it'd be greatly appreciated).

Give it some good use fella :D

HillBill, sometimes you come across like a tall glass of weirdness but yer craft and banter are excellent.

That is really very nice indeed.
Is the use of Damascus steel just an aesthetic one or does it have an properties different to O1?

Its not fancy steel or anything like that, just a high carbon mix. It will be a bit different from 01 as it has no 01 in it. It seems to take a sharper edge than 01 though, cant comment on edge retention as i have only used it this once. But alabama damascus is good steel.

Steel specs are.

3 layers of 52100 (ball bearing steel), 4 layers of 5160 (spring steel), 3 layers of 203E (low carbon high impact high nickel mild steel alloy), and 3 layers of 15N20 (band saw blade material). The steel is forged out and folded 5 times to give you 416 layers.

Thanks for that Info , Mark.

Durulz , I will be interested in knowing what the edge retention will be after you have had sufficient time to 'bed' her in. Not hoping bad things , just wanting to know if its a softer steel or not.

Very Nice knife. Giving me a 'tingly' feeling...

Hope you dont mind me adding a few more pics for you mate. :)

That's an absolute stunner, looks beautifully made. Is that wobbly effect caused by the different layers ? Do you buy the steel like that or fold it yourself ?

Cheers mate :)

It is caused by the way the steel is folded. I bought the damascus but didn't make it.

I should have a gas forge/anvil etc in a couple of weeks or so, the plan is to have a go at making some.

Thats stunning mate. Not just the type of steel but the overall shape, handle material, and sheath.

Top work !

Lovely knife and overall work. I really like the upsweep in the edge. Looks like it will be a great user - even if it is in Chelsea steel :)
