Buck Saw

I'm planning on making my own simple folding buck saw...

can anyone advise me on the best wood to use with this?

I'm guessing something hard but from there I'm not to sure.

Oak,Ash and Beech are a few that spring to mind..

i would go for ash, its not just strong but nice and light aswell. oak mite be a bit heavy if your planning it to take it on trips.

24" is my choice.
I made one out of seasoned hazel wands once - it workrd well enough - though I would chose planed Ash these days

should be fine. tbh you could probably use any wood as long as the you dont carve it too thin and take advantage of the woods grain for strength.

Go for Ash and in a 24" length. Most hardware stores keep 24" bow saw blades and you can get a nice long cut. A 12" saw blade will leave you knachered in no time.

you can use either, they just work slightly better for what they are designed for.

I would use different woods for different parts of the saw.

Here is one simple buck saw I have made. Birch, aspen and lilac were used for different parts.
