Yikes, a revived wellie boot thread so soon after the last one degenerated.

Anyhow, thanks to the excellent review here from MajiKelly I went and got myself a pair of Muck Boots. I've been wearing them a lot in the last couple of months and they really are good. So much better than my old Dunlop wellies that I can hardly compare the two.

If I have any niggles about them it is that I find the sizing a bit generous even though I bought my usual size. A pair of thick socks solves that problem but I wonder if I'll overheat in the summer. The tops chafe against my legs when doing vigorous walking wearing jeans, but this doesn't seem to be a problem with modern fabrics or when wearing thermals under my over-trousers. They can, of course, be rolled down.

Because I work in them as well as walking I got the steel toe capped ones and they are pretty heavy. So I'd recommend that if you are mainly walking in them that you don't get the Humbers.

I was concerned that they might not give good grip in wet clayey mud but they have been excellent and much better than my old Dunlops. I've been regularly walking through mud tracks in flooded fields on London Clay, I've barely slipped at all and the mud seems to fall away from the tread of the boot quite easily. I also walked for several hours through a flooded quarry and I had no problems keeping myself stable and warm. Having warm feet in sub-zero temperatures when wearing wellies is a new and wonderful experience for me. :p

The padded footbed, support and thermal properties and moisture wicking do seem to do a good job. Far better than cheaper wellies at any rate and my socks don't keep getting pulled down either.

They are a bit expensive but for me the comfort is worth the price.

I'm sure Grubs are fantastic too, in fact I believe that Muck Boots and Grubs are in fact made by the same company.

Hi Rebel,

Just wondered where you got yours as I notice we live in the same county? I would really like to try some on before I buy as I have real trouble with footware due to having poorly feet.

Also, what are the Grub's or Muck Boots like for driving in. I find 'normal' wellies a bit of a nightmare due to not being very flexi around the ankle.

Regards, Jon.

I bought them online sorry. I haven't tried driving in them either and I'm not in a hurry to try. I guess they'd be okayish but not wonderful.

Anyone know if they do a size 3 with the leg wide enough to fit an adult female and not an eight year old child ?

cheers,
Toddy

Thanks for the link :D That's a good price for Hunters.

I do have wellies, but I quite fancied the muck boots and the turndownable legs.and the breathable upper bits. I think I need to find a shop that stocks them that I can visit and have a try on.

I'm a 9 and I bought Derwents in a 9 and they fit fine. They're a tiny bit big but they don't flop around or anything, fine for walking in. I would say they are slightly less than a half size larger (but they don't make half sizes!) probably to accomodate thick socks.

Cheers,

Alan
