Just thought I'd post a picture of an axe I've rehandled.
It's a Marbles double bit axe - the old handle is next to it in this picture.
The new handle was a new GB double bit axe handle I cut down, it ended up about 16 inchs long - rather than the 12 of the original.
The axe has been reground slightly to a Nesmuk style so I've marked which is the narrow and wide edges and highlighted the area by scorching and then sanding down.

And here's my two 'good' axes. the other a Lee Reeves hawk. Cuts beautifully and is a joy to use.

I do not need another reeves I do not need another reeves.....................

How is the marbles to use now Mark? I have to say I truly hated mine which had the original handle - just too light to be useful I found. The extra length must help I guess?

It's much better now!
The old handle was just too thin to get hold of. I tried modeling this one on the fattest part of the original handle.
Haven't tried it much as I only finished this yesterday but already I can see the extra length in the handle makes a huge difference.
I'm looking forward to testing it properly, not sure when though. Probably take it to the moot if nowhere else...

The head is light, it can look a little handle heavy with the new handle but it seems to work OK. More testing will be needed.

Cheers

Interesting - if we ever meet we must try it against my Reeves Nessie which is also light - works well though

I keep coming back to this thread - I didn't even know Lee made a hawk - can't find one on hiw website???

Any chance of a bit more info Mark?

More info...
I swapped this for my old GB hawk a year or so ago with a friend
I have seen reviews in a few places on it - can't remember where now. I'll have a look...

It might be a useful thought to have a database on here to keep info about specialist / hobbyist makers easy to find- took a wee while to find Cegga!

Must admit I could be tempted by one of his Nesmuk style axes as well....
Think I'd be sleeping in the car if I did though

Hmmmm,

Fit and finish are....superb, nothing short of that. The wait is huge (just over a year when I got mine) - but you don't pay till its made.

Those I have handled - including the Nessie - are very much "pocket axes" - very very light. The double bit is about 1lb all in. Beautiful and functional but no "SFA".

The dollar is in your favour right now which helps
