It's a romper suit! My feelings are that the arms and legs are in seperate compartments to the body. Sleeping in it may leave your arms and legs colder than in a sleeping bag. This is the same reason that I wear mittens in the winter instead of gloves. I wear fingerless gloves if I need to tie knots or similar, but normally I wear woolen mittens with a canvas and leather over glove. As the fingers are next to each other, the hands don't get so cold.

Just my opinion you understand.

I'm with Spamel on this one, the bag/suit would have to be filled with alot more filling than an equivalent 'normal' bag, plus all the extra material involved in seams and baffles. The pack size must be massive

Plus it would have to be really good, to make the shtick that'd you'd surely receive from fellow camp mates worth it :D

Ok, I agree with you guys, you are going to look a bit of a numpty but has anyone ever tried one out?

We were issued a similar concept in Bosnian winters - they were called Dew Liners (I think I've still got mine somewhere) - great for sitting and moving around outside when it's in the - 20's but I wouldn't want to sleep in one. It's counter productive to isolate parts of the body from each other in cold conditions - your torso radiates the most warmth and your extremities need to have direct access (in one shell - i.e. a bag!) to that warmth when you're sleeping.

Wasn't there a similar concept with German sleeping bags back in the 80s? Except it didnt have legs on it, just arms. An iranian friend of mine showed me one he found in his loft...along with other unspeakable relics he found up there.

Unspeakable relics,do go on!!! Sounds interesting :D

My first ever sleeping bag was one of those German ones with the arms, It was quite warm but I was only camping out in a tent in fair weather at the time. It was quite useful though because if you needed a pee in the middle of the night, you could just unzip it across your thighs pop your legs out and walk around in it. I think it weighed a ton because it was made of heavy waxed cotton and packed down to the size of a small hatchback from what I can remember.

Its easier to pull a wedgie out of your backside in a normal sleeping bag. I wouldnt imagin it being the same in one of these maggot man bags.
