This new programme starts this week might be worth a look.

The Wild Gourmets
West Country
In the first episode of a six-part series, award-winning cook Thomasina Miers and adventurer Guy Grieve set off on a nationwide culinary adventure through Britain's most picturesque landscapes in search of the best wild food. Their aim is to turn the seasonal food they hunt and gather into mouth-watering feasts.

hmm strikes me as ray mears wild food, but presented by pretty people.
not going to stop we watching it though,

steve

Well Ray wasn't particularly exhaustive, so there should be plenty of room for 2 shows.
I've ordered the book so I'm hoping it's more of a guide to foraging in the UK, than an sporadic exploration of what our ancestors may or may not have eaten.

I'm looking forward to seeing this (must remember to set the PVR).

I also stumbled across another show in a similar vein on Saturday on Horse and Country TV. Its called The Forager's Field Guide, and was quite informative. The advantage it had for me over RM's Wild Food was that it dealt exclusively with the English countryside, and also had recipes using what had been collected. The one I saw was episode 4/6 and I'm not sure when the next one will be shown. There is a mini-website and some downloadable factsheets available from the ITV website.

Twas ok...seems to be kind of struggling to find its way in the first episode....doesn't seem to be a cookery prog or a wild food prog. Still worth 1/2 hr of me time like the presenters though.
We'll see Dave

I quite liked it too. The woman was quite pretty I thought, certainly more eye candy than Ray in my opinion:rolleyes:

There was a short clip where the bloke (Bear Grylls lookylikey) was chopping kindling with his axe, and had his hand was very, very close to the peice of wood he was chopping  Scary !

Not bad though, will watch next week (if I remember, and the wifey kins will allow me to use the tellybox for half an hour again:D )

Ok, im going to be fair:lmao:
It definately has potential.
It kind of reminds me of a hardcore hugh stanley whittenfurn thingy, even has the same sort of jolly acoustic guitar. You can see the presenters are lively and full of enthusiasm. He has just the right amount of rugedness with her airy fairy cutesy waifiness.

I don't feel they are portraying the amount of knowledge they have the potential for though. I mean " i always carry a shotgun, two axes and 3 knives " . And i don't care for her butchering skills either.

Will he be showing his bum in every episode, is that the hook for the grannies or something? Might be interesting to watc the sexual tension grow between them and see those 2 tiny tipis turn into one medium one:D .
Wonder if many people will be trying to fry up horses hoof fungus with butter in the near future through lack of familiarisation:lmao:

I said i'd be fair didn't i...
As entertainment i think it hits the spot and realy fills the gaping hole between Jamie oliver and Hugh stanley Whittingfurn:rolleyes:
But... It's another good nudge to get parents out with their kids, billies in hand ( and shotguns).
I shall be watching again :)
God those santanas are ugly though!

Repeated now (9.30) on Channel 13.....

By definiton the amount of stuff they're cramming into half an hour inevitably has the air of soundbite about it but what the heck......it's celebrating what many of us love and do in the Great Outdoors and is light years better than Corrie and most of the other pap we have to suffer.....:)

Interesting show. Did anyone else spot that he used the sharp edge of his knife to strike sparks! Ouch.

Well we've got a fair old spread of opinions on this one!
Sound bitey?-yes, but it is only a 30 min job, saying that I would rather have something a bit more "real" this was a bit too "fantasy island" for my taste. Someone mentioned Bear what's his face, that's a reasonable comparison I think, similar B.S.

The tool misuse had me wincing, was the use of a huge felling axe for splitting kindling just a macho thing? or does this particular "adventurer" spend a lot of time sewing up his wounds and covered in plasters? And then-yes, the ruining of a blade by scraping the edge down a fire flash! oh dear me could it get worse?
Oh yes, his 'basic' toolkit he carts around with him everywhere( shotgun?) didn't appear to include either a bow saw or even a folding saw, hence we are treated to another how not to do it demo when he tries to trim off his hazel spear by placing it against a young birch and belting it with his hatchet.

I wish someone in telly land would get a grip and engage some people who really do know how to do it and then give them the space and time to demo it properly. It reminded me of readers digest. The female chef, while way too ooh lah,at least knew how to use her tools and equipment.

No mention of safety, caution, minimum trace, legal issues, tidying up etc. just go out there and do it. People watch this stuff and assume that what they see is correct and obviously simple and straight forward, then become rapidly disillusioned as well as injured/poisoned, abused by keepers/landowners and leave a hell of a mess.

Oh I was doing so well there, but I'm starting to giggle a bit now!:lmao:

Oh nipples! I think its pap but it looks great and it is definitely better than C Street, etc.

I'll almost certainly watch the rest, if only for the scenery.:togo:

Kind regards
A very tired R.B.

Honestly! It seems the one night I decide to give my TV a rest and potter in my flat I
miss Tribe and this new thing which sounds very interesting! Ah well... repeats, I hope.

The name Guy Grieve rings a bell though - he's been mentioned here before I think?

What everyone else said - not great (preferred cook on the wild side) but kept me going till Tribe.

Don't do much telly - its worth a watch but not worth staying in for!
