Can any one recommend a naptha based panel wipe in the uk for my Optimus 8r ?
The one I have is s2002 upol but I tried a tank of unleaded tonight and the output had to 3x better in the same time frame. But apparently unleaded is not recommended from what I read

Is s2002 not the slow drying one that has low solvent content in it?

S2001 has higher solvent content in it and dries faster but causes static by drying quickly, not many paint shops use the fast one!

Thankfully you didn’t get the water based one, would like to see you light that!

Hi yes sorry I got my numbers wrong it’s the fast one I have but like I say the petrol had 3 x the power it seemed so I will try the brake and clutch fluid kindly suggested above

This is one area where I'm sitting pretty. Old boy in the pub brings me a five litre container any time I ask, will take a couple of pints but no money, won't tell me where he gets it, but he appears to have an unending supply. I'm not even particularly friendly with him, we just stand at the same bit of the bar. He also once got me a container of a generic waxoyl like substance on the same basis. He's not a petrol head, and is an ex-builder so the source really is a mystery, but I'm not complaining, although the only thing I really use it now is an old Bulgarian Army(?) issue Soviet Shmel4.

Thanks folks. When you read the data sheets on this stuff to the untrained eye they give the impression you got about 5 minutes to live if you breathe it lol

A few things come to mind.

1. Be aware that it's brake etc. cleaner that you want, not what I've always known as brake and clutch "fluid".
Brake and clutch "fluid" isn't the same thing at all.

2. If I use the brake and clutch cleaner in my Optimus 8 pure, just as it comes from the supplier, it seems to come out of the jet way too fast. Half the time the flame won't stay attached to the burner if you turn it up full. I have mixed it 50/50 with paraffin which seemed to suit it a lot better. Maybe these cleaners aren't all the same.

3. When I went to get some brake cleaner from the local paint supplier, for some sort of VAT-related reason they were very iffy about me using it as a fuel and refused to sell it for that purpose. So being a stationer I told them I'd be using it to clean sticky labels off things. They were happy with that. I have in fact even used it that way a few times, but it took the paint off one of my hip flasks. :(

4. If this stuff arrives in a plastic container, find a metal one to keep it in. It's safer and it won't evaporate through the metal like it will through the plastic. Make sure that it's appropriately labelled and kept somewhere safe. IIRC there's a limit in UK law that says you can't store more than three gallons of liquid fuel without a licence, which will require you to jump through all sorts of hoops. That's because it can be dangerous stuff of course.

5. These stoves were designed to run on petrol, I don't see any problem with using that - especially now there's no lead in it. As far as I'm aware it's quite a bit cheaper than brake cleaner. Yes if you use it a lot you might need to clean it a bit more often. I use my 8 a lot - like cooking a meal on it almost every evening between spring and autumn. I mostly run it on Aspen 4 and I haven't had to clean it in more than a decade.

Just out of curiosity I looked at he SDS sheets. The S2002 comes up as 100% naphtha, hydotreated heavy. Seems to have a initial boiling point of 140°C. The S2001 comes up as light naphtha so boiling point of 30°C. The brake cleaner seems to be up to 90℅ light naphtha and up to 30% isopropanol.

So I'd expect the S2002 to behave differently to the brake cleaner.

Thanks for all the replies and information I find it interesting.
So my first fuel was this stuff which seems ok

While I testing then I tried a tank of unleaded
Which as I say seemed to give two to three times more umph to the boil. It bought mug of water to boil in no time and a vigorous boil at that nearly bounced it off.
Could hear the roar a mile off

So I then got the brake cleaner because it had a low boiling temp than the s200 so I thought it might replicate the petrol but it burned the same as the s200 though seemed to last longer

Today now I picked up some aspen 4 which I am hoping will burn like petrol but maybe more healthy.

That said I will be using them all now I have them
