Being quite fussy at times... i'm a big fan of Spanish EV olive oil.

I have tried other non branded supermarket stuff.... don't know if they were Greek, Italian etc... didnt pay that much attention.

Now, with prices being... shall we say... an absolute rip off...

Which do you prefer, based on country of Origin?

They are all different... i just can't get hold of Spanish in local supermarkets atm.

If anyone has a good amount of experience with all 3.... which one is closer to Spanish? Lidl (greek week, well 2 weeks apparently) have a Greek EV katamala oil... £6.50 for 500ml. I dont mind a Katamala olive... but thats means nothing regarding the oil.

Silly question, i know. :)

I have never afforded virgin olive oil. Mainly in bread or for frying, I’ve always used the more experienced sort.

For everyday use I normally buy the La Espanola brand, quite. often on special offer either at Tesco, Morrisons or Asda, when I want something extra special I use Palestinian Zaytoun, definitely not the cheapest but worth the premium on so many levels in my opinion.

I like the Italian Filippo Berio EV olive oil. The 'organic' one is very good too.

Bought some Greek stuff not long since....that's harsh, I'm not a fan.

I'm lucky, my palette can't really tell the differences between olive oils, so I usually go with my nearest supermarket's own brand of EV cold pressed stuff. It's made from a blend of olive oils within the EU. It's mild enough not to overpower anything it's used on.
Just for price comparison, a half litre bottle costs 4,80 €, which is just over 4 quid.
A 75cl bottle of organic EV cold pressed olive oil costs 9, 14 €, roughly £8.

I don't care about origin, I buy anything which is organic.

Much more 'extra virgin olive oil' gets sold worldwide than there are olive trees to produce it!

It's notorious for counterfeit, a good chunk of what it on the market is watered down with chemically extracted oil, or other vegetable oil unrelated to olives. Large criminal gangs inluding the Mafia are involved..... none of this is conspiracy theory, as a bit of basic internet research will show.

I can't guarantee the organic stuff I buy is unadulterated, but I know the intricacies of the Soil Association inspection and certification processes, and there is much less chance for corruption,

As an aside, I actually prefer UK grown hemp oil- less sat fat, better omega 3-6 ratio, better taste (to me), home grown.....

If you get a chance to taste the Carbonell it’s worth it - I’d be like you in most cases but this stuff is great - pour some on a saucer and dip a lump of bread into it, so good! Bloody expensive is the only thing, if you can even get it.

I like that we can buy home grown rapeseed oil these days. I know it's a modern crop, a modern cultivar, etc., but it's still home grown oil, which in this country, at this latitude even if we do have a very temperate climate, is a pretty rare thing.
Like this stuff..

Thanks for the comments guys. I ordered some from Amazon... Cheap stuff though.. £5 for 500ml, Amazons own brand. It arrived today... actually pretty nice. I will check out some of the pricier stuff mentioned when my pockets don't feel so deep and my arms so short.

Thanks again. :)
