Around the early 2000s, Walkers did a few special edition flavours of crisps. One was Lamb and Mint flavour, but the one I really miss the most is the Cheese and Branston Pickle flavour. They were wonderful, and I would be delighted if they ever release them again to the same spec as before.

Got me thinking about some of our other crisp comrades who have fallen over the years. Other notable crisps/snack losses:

Brannigans ham and pickle flavour
Smith’s Cheese Moments (sandwiched between two bacon fries)

Which discontinued snacks do you mourn?

I am have far more a savoury taste than i have a sweet tooth, i am also an unashamed self confessed Crisp Monster, even though i hardly eat any these days. I always said that I’d never meet a bag of Crisps I didn’t like…..until I tried a bag of the Walkers special Edition Chocolate & Chilli……..absolutely hideous, vile, repulsive

I can't remember who made them but I recall a beef and mustard flavour. I love mustard and wasabi or any other spice that'll blow my socks off.

“Forgotten Snacks?”

Dunno - I’ve forgotten!

I’m trying to remember snacks from the 50’s and in accordance with the OP - I can only remember one.

So:
“REMEMBERED SNACK.”
Smiths Potatoes Crisps: What flavour? [looks incredulous] Potato- what else? There wasn’t anything else.

But they were CRISPS:
Thicker than today.
Greasier than today.
Far more burned ones than today.
plus a little twisted blue paper screw of salt.

You have reminded me that burnt crisps were indeed a thing! Even up until about 20 years ago I’d say they were pretty common. But now they’re a rarity - I wonder how they refined the process to avoid them so efficiently.

Smiths revived the Salt'n'Shake crisps back in the 1980s. I don't remember how long the revival lasted, but there's apparently another revival going on now, and the good people of Essex are worried about the safety of the little packet of salt.

Not so much forgotten as "disappeared" - Snyders honey mustard and onion pretzel pieces. They used to be commonly available at all supermarkets. Then only Tesco. Then nowhere, but Aldi had an own-brand version, which went as well.

Something to do with US additives not passing UK legislation, I was told.

Morrisons have the Walkers Lamb and Mint in atm, or they did on Friday in ours... they had others that aren't normally there... Could be a cheese and pickle... not sure... didnt pay much attention... but they 100% had the lamb and mint

Edit... Chilli and Cocoa was the other according to our lass.

No longer can we "look for the little blue bag". It now looks like someone lost a plaster. I've chewed one by mistake.

Not exactly forgotten... But a couple of months back, i bought a bag of these... out of curiosity more than anything.

Classic Night Market flavour. Not cheap at £4.75 a bag... but they are far more than that online. Big bag though, 500g and resealable...Honestly... They were lovely. One of the nicest flavour crisps i've had. Best way i could describe them is a Hoisin sauce/Chinese 5 spice flavour. Really very good. Everyone who tried them liked them. Said they were moreish. I agree.

The companies name made me laugh.. Hwa Yuan Foods... Just reminded me of my local chinese... they always ask if Hwa Yuan Chiiiiip... :D :D :D
