Good afternoon.

I now have a Dereelight DBS V3 torch and would like to get some advice on the best battery for this.

I have seen a Fogstar Energy 3800 18650 Battery.

From Fogstar.co.uk

3800mAh
Max discharge: 10A
Nominal Voltage: 3.6v
Maximum Voltage: 3.6v
Maximum Voltage: 4.2v
Top: Flat top

I'm not sure if these need an adapter to make it a button top, or if there are better button top ones available, or if I even need a button top or flat top.

Any advice or help will be much appreciated

Hold fire for a bit and I'll find out. I don't want you actually holding fire as it were ;)

My first thought is that an older light like this may not have a low voltage protection circuit and you may need a protected cell with the circuit in the battery. Over discharge of li-ion batteries isn't good for them.

Some info here, not least the use of an AW protected cell.

Also worth knowing that the DBS is a great host for P60 drop-ins so you can upgrade your led module.
It looks like there are two spare leds and a different head and a bag of spares and o rings too.

What does the p60 do?

New to these so bear with me.

Sorry not to get back, away at the moment.

Batteries first, the driver (board the LED is stuck to) is a 3A, so your 10A max draw battery, either the Fogstar or the Nitecore should be fine. I’ve been buying from Ecolux as they have such a massive choice of batteries and sizes. Fogstar seem to be reducing their cylindrical sizes and going more into powerbanks.

Ideally use protected cells as the light doesn’t have inbuilt low voltage detection. Be aware that getting down to 2.8V and the circuit engaging will leave you suddenly in the dark. A great excuse to buy/carry a back up torch.

Flat or button? If the head end has a spring contact then doesn’t matter as any difference in length caused by the additional circuit mounted on the battery will get taken up.

P60 drop ins range in price, and let you try different LEDs. They can be cheap on Chinese sites, or more expensive like these Sportac (Eagletac)

Thats brilliant.

Thanks very much for all.that effort and knowledge.

I think I'll order the Nitecore 3600mah then. They look like a quality product and reviews seem favourable.

Good advice on the back up light too.
