BBC Archives have some wonderful stuff to watch, I’ll have a look later.

My algo suggested a wonderful video on sound, followed by another inside the Kings Chamber of the Great Pyramid.

Can't think why but YouTube recommended this, ......thought some might find it entertaining.

Yeah I got that recommendation this morning, to have just watched it for a question to form given participant comment re. how far we have strayed from our beginnings courtesy of the modern world

The question ;

How would folk plucked out of 21st century life fair now doing the same, would we better or worse given how distracted we have become and is it possible this question forms a common potential subconscious question that has caused the formation of the Bushcraft interest?

I don't know why they didn't make a "bushcraft duvet" using the abundant grass/reeds and the cordage to keep them warm at night.
That would have been one of my first projects after fire and shelter.
Shame we never get to see the inside of the shelter.
I love the accents. So BBC english compared to today's accents. Says someone who used to speak like that and now has a much nicer Devon/ somerset tinge to speech.

Today prehaps but what about back in 1975 ? There wasn't a great deal of info floating around at the time & even fewer experienced people sharing their knowledge. Back in '75 I knew how to make a rudamentary fire & toast a slice of white bread on it. That was about the extent of my 'bushcrafty' know-how back then.

A great find. I'll watch the rest of it later.

I vaguely recall watching a TV programme with my Dad in the 1980s that had Lofty Wiseman teaching people survival skills.

There must have been a bit of a fad for "survival" in the 1970/80s.

My Dad has observed that in the 1960s many middle-aged and older men had been in the military (in war) and many would have grown up in poverty, so more of them would have had experience of living in harsh conditions. Their children, who hadn't experienced as much of those things, were the generation coming of age in the 70s and 80s.

Same recommendation popped up for me this morning too. I’ll give it a watch at some point

I enjoyed that - glorious.

Loved Les as a character - reminded me of the Actor Rory McCann 1758359138843.png

What was the more recent TV Experiment set on the Scottish coastline?? Eden??

I, too, was recommended this the other day by our Algorithmic Lord and Saviour.

A very enjoyable watch. The thing that jarred me so much about both this and the group survival one was the difference in footwear compared with now. People just wearing what we’d now consider to be ‘smart leather shoes’ to do all this. My ankles and heels are sore just watching it!
