I should have clarified that Cateye rear lights are good. Good lighting and battery life, not expensive.

Very happy with my Lidl panniers and an old metal rear rack. Rope or cord stops loads moving around but a cheapo elastic cargo net is useful.

The Brompton Metro bag I have is good on the Brompton I commute on (untill repairs were needed that I did not want to do just now).

Ortlieb panniers are the best out there. I have a pair offering 20 litres capacity in each one and I have another set that offers 35 litres per pannier with expanding outer pocket too. Pretty big those and really only good on a touring bike with longer chain stays or the touring recumbent I bought it for.

A touring recumbent!? That's almost like lying down in a country road waiting for a speeding car like a hedghehog - it's risky enough with an ordinary bicycle. I know many have a little hi-vis flappy flag but that's easy to miss and (in my opinion) not understood by most drivers.

Personally, if I’m on any road in daytime, country road especially (on a hybrid touring bike), I have an exceptionally bright, flashing rear light. You’d have to be blind not to see it, obviously as it gets dark, I switch to night mode.
