British Summertime.

Why? What’s the point?

How does it affect you?

Me? I get up at 9 - 10 and go to bed at 1 -2. Other than adjusting the clocks that don’t adjust themselves, nothing changes.

I work shifts, and I find it pretty exciting putting the clock forward an hour and realising I am going to g home sooner than I thought, messes up my charting of hourly patient obs though.
Later in the year it’s bitter sweet, as you have to turn the clock back and stay longer.

If not working it makes not a jot of difference

I worked 12on 12off night shifts at a factory long ago. We didn’t get paid for the extra hour, they said what goes round comes round. I worked two long ones and never did work a short one!

I have now carried out a full and detailed study of the whole scones, jam, and cream situation. This is based on scientific experiments involving a great deal of personal sacrifice to determine the answer (i.e. eating a lot of scones).

And, the answer is:

It depends!

If you are using clotted cream, the cream is too thick to spread on jam, so the cream has to go down first.

If you are using whipped cream, it's impossible to spread jam on top of it, so the jam has to go down first.

Using butter is just not acceptable under any circumstances.

Most FPSO operators’ procedures consider that any level of ventilation is sufficient to make a confined space safe, subject to gas testing before entry. There are no regulations applicable to confined space entry offshore, certainly nothing that will drive any operator to deviate from its goal-setting approach. The only outline regulation is to provide a safe working environment, which the duty-holder is obligated to provide under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Just rude people, just rude.

It's odd that's it's asymmetrical around the solstice.

I completely agree.

For example, at the hour change change at the end of March the day length (sunrise - sunset) for me at 52°N is around 12h 50m. And at the end of October at the change back it's around 10h.

Can't see the logic in the asymmetry myself...maybe it's something to do with the effect of day length on Clotted Cream?

Nah there are probably arcane reasons.... The Romans used a form of daylight saving after all, possibly ancient Egypt too...

I bet it was tried- and dropped-in the Neolithic.... digging up an entire stone circle and moving each rock a few feet twice each year is too much like hard work.
