The dilemma I had was that the direction with the best view across the woods also meant the rain would come in sideways. So all I did was close off one side of the tarp to protect against the cross wind/rain and still give me my preferred view.

I spent the weekend in a wonderful bit of woodland , with a small river running beside me, sheep baaing me to sleep and a gang of tiny lambs on the opposite bank playing zoomies. Hilarious to watch.
Coronation day, learning nalbinding by a fire. Three lasses in the woods. Today, 5 lasses learning to tablet weave.
Have seen or heard nothing of the big event, as i had no Internet connection, so couldn't even check on my phone. Totaly cut off from all media. I stayed in the woods overnight all alone, bacon mushrooms and eggs for breakfast, bliss!
Just got home, and have made some good like minded friends. Best weekend in yonks and yonks.
No quiche anywhere!

The carriage he rode in to the church had 6 hydraulic stabilisers. The golden carriage coming back was the old one with very poor suspension and no stabilisation. It was known to shake up its passengers hence only used to return from somewhere on state occasions. The newer one is used to get the monarch there looking good for the occasion.
Apparently the Queen used to complain about the golden carnage. IIRC Victoria refused to ride in it and other monarchs too. Why they don't just use a Rolls Royce Instead. Or use the newer one that's stabilised, has electric windows and even air conditioning Apparently!
I am afraid I hope the king lives long enough to see us to a Republic because he's the last of the royals to be worth swearing your allegiance to. Sorry if that's inappropriate but I do not think his kids have his and his mother's sense of duty. I say that as basically a royalist and someone who favours traditional, history and pride in one's country.
That wasn't meant in an insulting way - it's just the unison of such a large number of people shouting exactly the same words, and raising their hats, was like a large army scene from something like GoT.
It'd be interesting to know if anyone (the public) had any less than favourable views about Queen Elizabeth when she took the throne at just 25yrs old?
And you can hold an idea upon something and not feel a need to share it.
And equally sometimes its just about knowing when to shut up and respect the occasion for others.
In complete fairness, that cuts both ways.
If monarchists don't want their views challenged (in what has so far been a polite, if somewhat playful, manner) then they shouldn't raise it.
As spectacular as the whole thing was, I do hope that all those who continue to struggle with the cost of living crisis, those who continue to need the services of food banks (and the ever growing cues) also took pride in the extortionate price the occasion cost - a pay packet picked up by the state (and thereby funded by us) who fail to provide for its citizens but seem to find the funds for what is an already ridiculously privately wealthy family.
Not to mention the peaceful protestors being carted off, and women's rights groups using the occasion to raise awareness of female safety (the very same Police who dragged them away having a poor track record when it comes to female safety - the irony of which I'm sure wasn't lost on anyone).
No, if you feel the need to 'share' your pride at all this, then don't get all uppity if others feel the need to share their displeasure. Especially when it's been done in a polite and civil manner.
