Sure Roycroft packframes are great. However i saw a while back on Pinterest an even simpler frame so it got filed away for an oppourtunity to play.

Not a bad idea BUT don't look up! Hmmm... I think I like the arch more though it takes a bit longer to make.

I have an arched pack frame as well as a roycroft this is just another option to test out and have in the skill set

I was "foraging" for a few bits in a disuses coppice and when i spotted it i had to have it

How comfortable is it?

Very nice idea + saves all the measuring + notching, etc of the Roycroft. As Mr Fenna notes, however, there is an element of serendipity in the wood. I will continue with teaching Roycroft to my Scouts, partly in memory of Mr Kochanski and partly because it develops their knife skills; however, I'll also keep my eyes open for one like yours.
