I am interested in full tang knifes with 10 cm blades which are optimized for
Eating
Cooking
Fire lighting
Peg carving
and general Bushcraft Use

I currently look for myself but for German boy scouts as well, so the price doesn't matter in your recommendations.

(In Germany even children are allowed to run around with fix blades up to 12 cm. But I prefere and recommend for trekking and bushcraft in Germany, where batoning isn't necessary because we always easily can find dry wood in our forests, blades between 8 and 11 cm and absolutly prefere 10 cm blades.)

I prefere traditional designs with wooden handle and leather sheath, but I am interested in modern stuff too.

I prefere knives wich are designed more or less like the following:

And if you know where they are made please tell it me.

If you own them, please write some additional informations and short reviews.

Me too, and have been looking for the past 25 years or so.

Or at-least that's my excuse for buying more knives. If you lean towards carving/Scandi then be prepared to pickup most of your chopped carrots from the floor :O_O:
More flat ground/micro bevel edges are easier to sharpen and maintain quickly etc etc. Then there will be a load of folk that will rightly disagree with everything I just said.

Get them a bunch of Mora and go from there. Yep its going to be a boring suggestion but sometimes the math has already been done for you and its easier to submit lol.

It’s not a full tang, but I bought a load of knives similar to this for our cubs and scouts to learn the basics with.
Cheap enough that I don’t worry if they get damaged or we lose them.

The ones I got weren’t stainless steel though.

I had one of these as a scout, stolen whilst I was in the army and bought my son one when he moved into scouts.
Stick tang so may not be what you want.

Carrots fly longer the thicker the blade is. Kitchen physics!

I did not want to use the "M word' as some might object to my Nationalism.

But they do manufacture a whole bunch of knives, that are cheap, and of very high quality!
Check out their knives for craftsmen. So cheap it is ridiculous.
And they are practically unbreakable.

There are a bunch of short bladed, full tang knives around, but many have a very useless, thick, wide blade.

That I like very much.
Thank you for the recommendation!

In the eighties most German boy scouts used that kind of sailors knives.
They worked well for cooking, oinions and carrots no problem, for cutting bread and putting butter and marmelade on the bread, very well as a bushcraft knife but not very strong and to long in my opinion.

Now a days most german scouts changed to Opinel No8 Carbone, because it works very well for cooking, eating and carving pegs and is very light. Traditional german boy scouts are hiking with complete old school equipment.

But off course the classic Moras are in use too. With wood handle, 10 cm blade. We glued thin leather around the plastic sheath, stitched the leather, added an other leather hanger and removed the red coulour. In the end they had been realy nice.

Opinel and Mora classic are well known solutuions, most Helle Knives work well to.

If you see scouts in the Scandinavic forests during the summer holidays they usually are Germans. One German Boy Scout per square kilometer I guess.
A lot of scouts use the well known Scandi knives. But we don't need the stick tang and not the Scandi blade.

That's the reason why I WANT to learn something about the durable Full Tang Knifes which are currently on the market.

The blade shouldn't be thicker than 4 mm because that is the legal limit in France, and we learn French in school.

(I owned the Fällkniven F1. Impossible to cut carrots with it and find the parts of it later, if you don't cut them in a closed room!)

That's very similar to a green river knife https://www.heinnie.com/john-nowill-green-river-knife
I have no experience with it but this one might be good for your scouts on a budget https://www.heinnie.com/john-nowill-seamans-knife

A video of some german Wandervögel on the hike in Rumenia. The traditional german boy scouts are pretty similar, just with uniformed shirts and jackets, what the Wandervogel never used.
But the stile is more or less the same since 1896 in the Wandervogel and at the german scouts as well.

Have you considered speaking to one of the knife makers on this forum to see what they can do, you may be able to get exactly what you want and a more basic version than they currently make if you are buying lots, personalised to your troop, rather than settling for the closest to what you want from a mass produced knife.

I've got a Muela Kodiak in Sandvik 14c28n which is great. Also a Ruike Jager F118-B in the same steel.
Also look at the Boker plus outdoor xl in 12c27, it is full tang, but hidden.
I've been very pleased with all the above.

Duggie Bravo, I thought about it, when I was looking through the homepages of mid size german knifemakers.

A few still offer bad constructed scout knives of the twenties of the last century and even the totally idiotic HJ knives, which have a good but to long blade but nonsense sheeth and handle, because the Nazi Gouvernment decided to give every 10 years old school boy a trench weapon instead of a good civil travel knive.
They offer the sailors knife with a 13 cm blade, illegal to carry in the streets, not realising who bought the most of that knives, and they offer other nonsense.

You are absolutely right, that perhaps it is far easier to pick up the necessary vocabulary to speak with a small british knife maker instead of trying to convince a mid size factory in Solingen that left the bushcraft market in 1960 and now a days is totally concentrated in expensive hunting knives, because they know very well that most scouts are using stuff from Scandinavia or just an Opinel.

If you know where they are made please tell it us and set the links to the authorised traders or better the makers themselves!

(Regarding the prices and qualities it makes a huge difference, if the knife comes from a develloped country or of an unnown source. In my opinion.)

It is far more effective if everybody who gives a recommendation does this work once instead of letting every reader do that work!
If we do that thread properly it will become one of the most valuable threads of this Forum, so it is worth the investment of the three minutes.

(Using a german ID I mainly find links in German language what isn't so usefull for an English speaking forum. Not everybody who reads this is a native speaker of a germanic language, please keep that in mind.)

Does the Ruike work well with a firesteel?
What's abut the Muela Kodiak in this case?
