Hi all, as per title. I'm looking for a diy kit to go into a dry bag wall, the thought behind it is to get all the air out whilst folding over the top of the bag, then lock it off / bung it. I've looked and seen some that you glue / weld onto the bag but I would like something with a mechanical back up, something that is either push-fit or screw into itself type thing but to maintain water tightness. I hope I've explained that ok. The end result would be something like the eVent dry bag that expels the air as you cinch it down.

Thanks for looking.

I found these... (Chinook Dry Bags)

and thought the screw cap bung in these kids drinks pouches might work for a DIY version

Recently read something which sums up my thoughts perfectly, and the reason why i don't use compression stuffsacks anymore the last year since i noticed the same:

Whilst I get the point of his writings there's no way I want to be 'stuffing' bits and pieces loose into a lot of down sleeping gear, yes, if you over compact an item it's like a medicine ball, I just want to take them down to manageable size taking the excess air out of a bag but still keeping it's integrity.

Al, i can recommend the Sea to summit eVent compression dry sacks. I use one for my down quilt, good sturdy, well made bags.

You could have ago at making some, but could be a chew on, getting a air tight seal around a value or were you expel the air.

Yeah mate that's what I mentioned about the eVent bags, but I'm on a budget, this Sweden trip is killing the wallet and I have a multitude of dry bags, just thought there might be something out there ?
Thanks anyway :)

Aye, they not cheap mate, they start off around £20 for the xs size. You could try cutting a 2 inch square from the base of a dry bag, then gluing a piece of eVent fabric on the inside. But i don't think it will stay sealed and water tight, when compressing the bag there'll be loads of pressure on the glued area. You could ruin a perfectly good dry bag :(

Keep an eye on ebay for the eVent ones, ya might get lucky on there :)

Tyre valves? I've a few in the garage, rubber neck with a 'groove' that may be possible to slip the material into and glue, without needing a large hole

Nearly there, that's not a bad thought, still, I think the size of the small hole needed and the lack of a mechanical fixing could be a problem :(

Keep them coming folks :)

To be honest Im not sure it would be any more effective than just rolling the bag from the bottom up and then unrolling a bit so you can roll the top over
