I have two sabres, that belonged to my grand father. He used both during WW1. He fought on the Italian front, Isonzo, 1916 to 1918, so possible the working one got "wetted" against a Brit. For sure on an Italian.

One is the "everyday " issued fighting sabre, handle of gray stingray skin, bound with steel colored wire, nickeled steel cabbard. The other one is his dress uniform sable, with a black stingray skin handle bound with gilded wire. The hand protector is very fancy, gilded. Scappard clad with black leather with all the metal parts gilded.

I also own a Jamaican machete. Kind of "sugar cane sword"!

Wow nice collection JonD. Albion. We should take that name back. I think read in one of Barry Cunliffes book that Julius Ceaser, noted thats what the Britons [Celts] called Britiain. Albion.

Ill check out those videos mentioned, cheers.

I once owned a small collection of swords and bayonets - all antiques and my favourite was a French Court Sword with Ivory handle bound with gold wire and a blade etched with floral designs and the makers name and address ... ON one of the bridges in Paris.
Unfortunately the collection had to be sold when I ran into some money troubles at one point (same thing happened to my guns!) and all I have left now is a Victorian Sword Bayonet (very bad condition - not worth selling) and an Indian Hill tribe copy of a 3 band Enfield percussion Rifle - made as a smooth bore!
I would love to get a Bronze age sword, an Iron Age Sword and a Viking Sword ... but funds do not permit...but if anyone is up for trades I have lots of gear/leatherwork that I could offer!:)

I made this from a standard Tramontina 14 inch machete using some wet moulded thick leather and strips of mild steel flat from the local DIY shop. I spent nearly 15 years sailing alone around the Mediterranean and Caribbean and it was just part of my sea going tool kit.
