Belstaff 554 or Barbour style bags

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Timberland Earthkeeper canvas field bag is one that looks "inspired" by the 554.

Not sure if it's discontinued though.

The Belstaff bags seem like overpriced fashion items. For instance the buckle straps are not real!

They are just hiding magnetic clasps under them....Useless IMO.

Do those zippo bags also have buckles, and press studs underneath them?

Jeez. Its all ornamental isnt it? What goods that?

Buckles should be buckles, and should be brass. Anything else is for your posy laptop.

I have the Belstaff Colonial Dave and I have to say the buckles are real . Bridal leather and brass.
Fantastic build quality on it, however I DID NOT buy it new, stupid money.
My edc bag, for the last 15 years has been the Barbour Tarras.
Can't say enough good things about it.

Oh. Fairplay then. I read a review on BB, where they said they were just ornametal with clasps underneath. Maybe Im thinking of the wrong model.

I know Andrew had a barbour tarras as well. They must be good then, if you've both got one.

The first picture in the thread shows them sewn on mate ( Altho bizarrely upside down!! )
I think Martyns shot must be of a different bag, got mine on my lap as I type this.

Hope you are well.

If I did not consider them the real deal mate, one would not be in my collection!! I take your point about those magnetic clasps pal, they're not for me!!
Talking about 'I am Legend' you read the book?
Superb, far more interesting ending than the film.

I believe the magnetic nonsense is a change that happened several years ago.

Has anyone come across a more affordable bag like the 554 or the Barbour Steve McQueen bag

If you are not in a rush, search ebay from time to time and Barbour Tarras bags do pop up.

Also from ebay, Billingham camera bags, those are indestructible. I've had one that was second hand when I bought it in the mid eighties and it is still going strong.

Search for Billingham bag and limit the search to 'used' items.

This is mine...

I had not realised the author was mathieson, who did the manchurian candidate! Yes I'll get that then thanks. For some reason I thought the book was differet, because the movie was a remake of the [crappy] omega man.
Looks like you have a earlier better [proper] version of the belstaff bag.

I too rate the billingham bags. Lot of trout fishermen use them.

Do theBillinghams have much value mate?

It varies, this one which was a similar model to the one pictured above sold for £33, collectable or nearly new ones can go for well over £100..

"...Looking at other canvas camera bags, I also spotted Courser and Evecase. I like the removable camera section which these have, which gives the bag more than just one use..."

The sectioned inserts inside Billingham bags for lenses and cameras are removable or can be customised as needed.

The radio version appears on 4extra every so often, both books are sitting on my shelf.
I like to use the green dpm 51 bag for book n bottle stuff, being slimmer than the ressie pouch it has lasted well.
