Just wondering really if there is enough interest in people here who are 'into' tracking to organise a few get togethers and create some Tracking Workshops between ourselves ?

I'm sure there are loads of people here well versed in Tracking and willing to pass on and share that knowledge with other? ( or maybe not )

So , anyone be willing to consider a few weekends camps dedicated to all matters relating to tracking? Could be a semi regular thing during the course of the year.

EDIT:-

Map is now active If you want inclusion please leave a note on this thread with a rough location ( Town,City,Part of a Postcode )

Hi TeeDee
If I was a bit closer (a lot closer actually) Exeter is a 1240 mile round trip for me) I would like to learn more about tracking, you never know, if there's enough interest down South maybe we could get a tracking workshop or team going up North. I'll be watching this thread with interest for sure, anyhoo best of luck and I hope it works out for you Bro.

I've done a few tracking courses but definitely only feel I have the basic tool box and not the full skill set , the idea of the post was just to see of people would be prepared / interested to get together in their regional areas for some teaching/learning within a group format. Good reason to go out for a weekend and as 21pict has been talking to me about , discuss what signs one is missing that others are picking up on and vice versa.

Maybe a long slow burn to this thread as people see the thread entertain the idea and run with it , or could make it an annual event ( 2016 anyone? ) for Trackers to come together at a single location and learn/teach/share the skills together without commercial pressure and cost.

I wish I could join you guys! But it is a bit hard to commute from North America.

I highly recommend tracking clubs. Mine meets the second Sunday of each month. We frequently visit wilderness beaches (a great place to track) and I learn a tremendous amount. Last time out I learned to recognize signs of beaver.

When I track with a group, people notice things and ask questions that greatly improve my own abilities as a tracker. Here are some links to outings I have done with my tracking group. It is a lot of fun!

I hope you can make the tracking group happen. You'll have a blast!

I think working as a group would be a great way to learn, listening to other peoples interpretations of sign could be very beneficial, even if the group collective doesn't come to definitive answer, the question alone may give a insight into another approach or method of interpretation. Everything I've learnt up till now has been from books, which is OK, but out in the field, by myself, I have absolutely no way of knowing if my interpretations are valid or not, a group or experienced instructor must be a better approach.
Jack Kearney's book Tracking a Blueprint for Learning How had a good section on laying out a trail for beginners, I'm currently getting ready for a move in the near future, but if I can find the book I'm quite happy to post it out on lone to anyone here who wants a read. When I find it Ill add it to the bottom of this thread.

I could be interested, I've done a couple of courses a few years ago with Ian Maxwell, again a bit rusty! But would love to brush up!

I don't have formal training, but I've been hunting and using the skills hands on so to speak since I could walk (literally) terminology I use may well be wrong but I've successfully tracked for a long time now. Sure I have a huge amount to learn and would be happy to pass on my own knowledge. Collective group is the way to go I reckon

When I say young. I mean THAT young! Air rifles first and then my first pigeons with my first shotgun. Oh the responsible parents I had

Snap - and exactly the reasoning for the group get togethers in my head , to stay active.

Excellent, through Jonny Crocket or with Shadowhawk?

Direct with Max and the rest of his excellent trainers who probably don't get enough praise and unfortunately I've forgotten the names of many of them.

Anyone know the easy way to set up a Google Map that lets you place pins in for Locations? may help and encourage people to get involved and join.

You can set favourite locations that appear as a star on the map

I was just reading through Woodsorrel's link's, Mysteries on the beach part 1 and 2, here's a couple of Quote's from there that get to the point better and easer to understand than my clumsy ramblings.

" It is better to know some of the questions than all of the answers." James Thurber

"Take the attitude of a student, never be too big to ask questions, never know too much to learn something new". Og Mandino

Sorry, I'm a bit off my game tonight, I just remembered the questions, Kipling, I keep six honest serving men.
I KEEP six honest serving-men
They taught me all I knew
Their names are What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who.

Love that.

Going to keep bumping this thread and I'll work on a Google Map to encourage people.
