Compact brew/ cook kit for the car

As above folks,Am not really sure what section to put this under as it is kit but could fit in elsewhere........I have seen on a few forums of late folk making up an Army surplus resporator pouch /bag that has a brewing up kit in it: So stove,gas, water boiling vessal and a brew making set. I cant help but think its a great idea for day trips out rather than being ripped off and for when I am out shooting and beating etc.How ever I have my resporator pouch, gas and compact stove that fit in the pouch but I am not sure on is:Water boiling vessalBrew making kitSo what solutions would you recomend for the above two items ?ATBMatt

I have had this set for a while now and it works well for me.

It's a good size for one for all cooking and eating and easily big enough for brewing up for two.

In my car is a hexi stove and coffee container type pot. Simple & Easy

SAT is a cheap bombproof stove to lob in the car and has space inside for bits and bobs to brew up and is ideal since weights not the issue.
Or since its the car Ghillie kettle is a winner although not as compact its a mighty fine piece of kit to boil water fast without having to keep fuel with it.

I have an Esbit solid fuel cookset.


That lives in the car, although it's not big enough for a brew for two I can cook something up hot for my wife and then do mine. I can fit inside with the lid closed;

8 14g fuel tabs
3x book matches
1x P51 can opener
in the bag theres a spoon and a few plactic sporks.

As a backup there's the large Esbit folding stove with 12 14g tabs and a cheap no-name teeny tiny saucepan I grabbed from the bin after my wife chucked it out.

+ 1 for the SAT - it pretty much ticks all of the boxes in your, albeit brief, requirements.

I was sent a SS model by a, very kind, Swiss, YouTuber after I'd posted some positive comments on one of his videos, and I've been hugely impressed with it for brews and all forms of cooking for two people.

My outdoor activities have become more mobile, from the sedentary camping that I used to do - that, coupled with advancing years, means that the SS SAT is a wee bit on the heavy side to find room in my rucksack - I've switched back to titanium.

My double Tatonka kettle kit (1.0L & 1.6L nested SS pots) now live in the boot of my car and my SS SAT lives in the left hand pannier of my motorbike.

Cheap as chips if you can find one.

Well that last one is a Swiss Army Trangia, it looks a bit like this:

Mine is a stainless version and I rate it as highly as the others do. Absolutely bombproof but I'll admit that getting in it everything that I want in it has always been a bit of a challenge.

There's a hexy stove and a Ghillie kettle (er, can I call it a GK or does it have to have three letters?) in my Jeep too. I'm one of those odd people that like the smell of hexy but I'll always go first for twigs for the Ghillie if I can. The hexamine is just a backup.

Those other abbreviations are left as an exercise for the reader.

Another vote for the stainless steel Swedish Army Trangia here. I have mine packed into an S10 respirator pouch along with fuel and a small kettle I adapted to fit the trangia with the use of a mallet... Speeds up the boiling of water then!

No, its a Swedish army alcohol cookset that sometimes used burners made by Trangia...as some here know I detest the blooming sets but others love them...

OK - guilty as charged - my excuse is that my old job in the Army used an awful lot of TLA's (Three Letter Abbreviations!) and I find it hard to let go!

I can't find you my Coleman Exponent set up but fundamentally that's just the 4 piece cookset. The burner is a Trangia and the tripod is Tatonka.

They are a lot slower than real Trangia's, they are heavy, the real Trangia is just a better performer all round. I got my first one from the USA and was really looking forward to its arrival...disappointed with it when it arrived. I've kept one aluminium and one stainless steel version as part of my stove collection but they will never get used but will be sold as prices are going up. I gave three SS versions away to members here a couple of years ago. I know a low of members here like them so its just me who 'don't get it' lol

You are not on your own Rik. The aluminium SAT weighs almost a kilo My hiking cook kit, complete, weighs 130 grams (Add fuel) . The SAT is about 3x the volume also, so cannot earn a place in my pack.

I've occasionally been tempted to kick innocent bits of kit, but walloping a kettle seems a make or break kind of move. If I tried I suspect I'd just have a leaky ex-kettle. Good on you for making it work though.

As I said I have a Trangia in the Tatonka Stand and a 4 pot Coleman set. Trangia Burner is about £12.

For the odd cuppa the Tatonka will do.

I got the kettle cheap, couple of quid if I remember right, so thought it was worth a try and reduces boil time on the Trangia against using the standard pot.
