Well it was snowing when we headed out and i guess it stopped about ten minutes later, but was great to be out there in the cold and snow, rather than the cold and rain for change.
The three of us, Hugo, Rockmonkey & I went for a proper bimble today as it was too cold to sit around in our usual haunts, so it was time to put a few miles in, starting off we had the remnants of the snow flurries and some ice on the lane to contend with, im surprised the whole County didnt grind to a halt just because of the 0.04mm of snow on the ground.
looking up to where we would be coming down off the hills much later in the day
Over the small stream, it's not that cold after all, it's still flowing
our destination lays in the cloud
not that much later, the clouds lifted and the sun started to come through, but the north wind also picked up as well
looking back through the farm we have just walked through
Hugo & RM
view towards the North Downs in the distance, looking very white
tis a bit muddy in places, still, that's what boots and gaiters were made for
Snail hotel
Tinder bundle anyone
further up the track
and a superb old Blacksmith made gate
into the Plantation
One of the many old barns around here
Looking west along the line of the Downs
up the Drove way, which had been used earlier that day to bring the sheep off the top of the hill and into lower pasture, the tracks are from a tracked fencing machine that came past us, lovely bit of old kit that was closely followed by an equally cool Land rover
On the climb to the top now and the view out over the Sussex Weald
Up past the old pits.
then up on to the hill top where we were buzzed by Gliders enjoying a bit of slope soaring
off to the trees on top of the hill
some glorious views of the Gliders enjoying the updraft from the north wind
Looking South out over the sea
H & RM on top
Final look back before heading down slope
to our fallen Beech and time for a well earned brew
before heading out and back towards the cars witht he sun starting to set behind us
superb day out with great company and lovely to get a few miles put away.
Perhaps a few miles more next week chaps?
