Hi there
I am currently attempting to light a fire with the "bow drill" method but I am unsure what to put in hearth/base to make a decent ember from which to light the fire. What should I use???
Thanks in advance
Ben

hey Ben do you mean the bit you hold (dearing block) or the bit where the dust forms (hearth board), i use grass in the bearing block and just leave the hearth board, if you put anything into it if its damp it wont help at all....

The dust you collect is what produces the ember, this ember can then be transferred to an 'extender' like a cramp ball to prolong it and assist with lighting your tinder bundle.
You only really need something to collect the dust as it's produced.

Blood sweat and tears are all you need for bowdrill! :lmao:

Good luck!

That's what I thought when I was learning; in actual fact if you have the right set it is surprisingly easy. That's the fun of really learning and understanding how the tool works.
