Sorry, no idea, as I implied, I don't know how clean the Tyne is where you're planning to go crabbing (or anywhere else on the Tyne TBH).

Not that great, apparently only 30% of rivers within its catchment meet current water quality standards with one described as a failing water body

oof i mean people eat the mitten crabs from the thames which is probably more polluted.
id have to "purge" the crabs in clean running water for ages tho which isnt ideal. probably best using them as sea fishing bait- what would the best way to do that be?

I have an article in a local paper that they are invading the waterways and overpowering the Evil American Signal Crayfish because they're bigger.

I'm thinking bigger = more meat.

Anyone caught any?

I hear there in tidal Thames in London none up north really though

How far do they come inland up tidal rivers ?id try them
