Just wondering is it at all possible to copy youtube videos? If so how?
And above all is it legal to do so?

I suspect it's illegal yes, and I'd also suspect it might annoy the mods to discuss
it much further but Google, or the YouTube community itself, is probably your best
way of finding out options.

As far as I'm aware it is possible - ie I've seen it discussed - but it's not something
I've ever wanted to do (so haven't investigated further) cos the quality is generally
poor and everything is about five minutes long :p

Use Firefox instead of IE, there is an add on called video download helper, it copies video to your PC from most sites, google video and youtube amongst them

As far as I'm aware, all video on google and youtube is public domain so legal to copy?

I agree with firefox add-ons, if you're on other computers though there're a few sites that do it, google 'flv downloader' or something similar and you'll find them. I also sometimes use (or have heard about from 'mates' depending on the legality!) http://vixy.net/ to convert them to a more usable format

How many people in the UK have gone to court for posting links?

What does it matter if someone has gone to court? All I've tried to do is make folks aware that the thread may be on thin ice. One of the posts in the links mentions BcUK's 'General Community Rules and Guidelines', namely:

2 Bannable activities:
Displaying, conversing about (using any of the community tools) or the posting of links to any type of pornographic site, illegal software downloads, or warez links will earn a ban. Any foul language or behaviour will also earn a ban. One warning can be given at the moderators’ discretion.

The software mentioned is legal and as you appear to be a moderator here now you can delete my posts
