We've recently picked up a copy of [font=verdana, helvetica, arial]Yorkshire Dales Walks with Children by Stephen Rickerby, a collection of 20 walks suitable for children. (We picked up the book at the information centre at Aysgarth Falls, but it's also available from Amazon)

The walks range from 2 to 5 miles in length and all are circular, so you end up back at the car!

There are detailed notes for the adults about the route, and sections on things for the kids to spot and information about features

All walks include information about toilets and refreshments (and gift shops ), as well as a selection of other interesting places close-by

We did our first walk on Sunday, 2.5 miles around Bolton Abbey, with 4 kids in tow, ages ranging between 3 and 11. The description of the route was accurate and easy to follow, and there were plenty of great views and features to keep littl'uns interested

We spent a leisurely hour and a half walking and got back to the car in time for our picnic lunch, then the kids played in the grounds of the abbey and the river - it was a beautiful, sunny day and we all had a fabulous time

I hope the rest of the walks are as good as this one; we're all very much looking forward to our next foray into the Dales

If you start at Malham and walk to Janets Foss waterfall (on the flat). you can walk over the tops to Malham cove or Gordale scar. A good walk whatever the weather. I have done it with my 7 and 5 year old whilst carrying my 18 mth old in a backpack. :biggthump
