I have heard but not seen of a cross cut log with a night-light in the centre. I have been told that it will burn for some time. I have tried to make one but it didn't work. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong.
Try searching for Swedish or Finish Fire log. A length of dry standing pine or similar wood is stood upright & a X cut 2/3rds the way down with a chainsaw. Twigs, birch bark etc is stuffed in the gap & then set on fire. You can cook on the top of it & it works well in snow as the wet base does not put out the fire.
Thank you all with your help. With the "you tube" links I have seen that sticking a small candle in the centre isn't going to work unless the wood has been dried and I think that that has been the broblem. Many thanks again.
