RB, if you were to strop on 1200 grit, wouldn't you make it slightly convex?

Yes ,But I use 1200 on a piece of plywood ,no soft backing and it keeps a completely flat grind.
I said strop because the action is pulling it across the wet and dry rather than pushing it on a stone but it is not a proper stropping action.

Mine was sharp when new but not as good as it could be.
I used a stone then 1200 and the the starkie ,and it gets a little strop each evening just to keep it shaving.

Same technique i use with the starkie. To keep my bevel completely flat grind i use it on a hard surface.
