Worst.Job.Ever.

Whats the worst job you've ever had and why ? what made it the worst ? How did you cope ( or not ) , How long did you stick it out and what was the catalyst that made you change.
and planting an orchard in greece. The ground was like concrete and we had tools so old and rusty that were used to build the pyramids. I did it for as long as it takes to say I'm not doing this. x

I once had a temp seasonal job in a plastics factory - it made different tat for each period of a year - Plastic holly for Christmas , Plastic flowers for spring etc etc - plastic or rubber moulded tat to be assembled and checked.

I got the job in the autumn , the big drive upto Halloween and all that entails - Plastic pumpkins , Skulls, Gravestones etc etc - just the seasonal detritus we all know and hate.

We had an extremely large order come in and they wanted a 12 hour night shift so we opted in.

Anyone - it was me and just one other guy on this long moving production line , - He was standing slightly opposite to me over this long wide conveyor belt - the base unit would come down the line and from a variety of boxes and bins around us we would have to quickly and deftly pick out all the different pieces to apply to the base unit to make the whole figurine.

White ruffle shirt -Check
Long Black Cloak - Check
Sharp blood covered Teeth - Check
Hypnotic mesmerising eyes - Check
Exsanguinated female victim at feet -Check

Etc etc - so in the end you'd have a rather cheaply made Dracula figure that stood 18" high.

But. My. God.

The SPEED of the conveyor belt when it was going full tilt boogey was unreal - our hands were like a ambidextrous blur of activity , just a flurry of movement for the whole 12 hour shift.

It was the speed that was the worst bit. Unrelenting..

I literally had to make every second Count.

When I was a youth I did a temp job in collage kitchen prepping it after the summer holiday, there was me and 2 other people, first job was a quick inventory of the supplies.
I was given 3 freezers 2 were good but number 3 had failed during the break, the meat within was ripe to say the least. We had to pull in the wheely bins and shovel it all out, all of the shelves inside were covered in white fur and slime and of course it didn't smell very nice.......Good times :)

Street sweeper in Brighton is definitely up there on the list. Many years ago now.
It was a job generally worked by forgotten and demoralised people. It was quite bleak doing the early shift, a lot of the guys would start drinking at 5/6 in the morning and drag it out into the day. There were also plenty of members of the public who were pretty keen on making the job significantly harder than it had to be.

I was lucky, inasmuch as I was young and robust, and really just passing through on a bit of agency work. But, I felt sorry for the guys who were there long term. It was bleak.

It was however, a good lesson for me as a young man in what can happen in life if you're not careful. How you can just 'end up' somewhere and how easily life can get the better of you. I was grateful for that.

I had the same. I was a molder in a foundry when I was 17. the foreman told me that the life expectency of a molder was just 60. I did it for a less than a year then went to live in squat and went watching punk gigs. DD xxxx

Postie.

Had to be in Victoria for 4 or 5am getting a bus to the airport then a coach.

Arrived to meet the most unhelpful group of people I’ve ever met.
They were exceptionally rude to the temp and agency staff with plenty of racism thrown in.

Was then given a 19kg satchel and dropped to a random place in town to deliver the mail. The bag is packed a certain way according to the route but nobody told me the route.

5 hours in I got a taxi to the sorting office, dumped the half full bag and walked out
