Could brew and take 'heather ale'. Heard a good story on radio scotland today.

.......A Pictish King and his son were pushed to the edge of a cliff during a battle with marauding Vikings, desperate for the secret recipe for Heather Ale, much loved across northern europe. The King and his son were tortured at the dge of the cliff to reveal the secret recipe. Finally the King says stop, I'll tell you, if you let my son die a quick death, the son is thrown over the cliffs to his death. The King turns to his tormentors and says good, I was worried he would give in after I die, then promptly threw his two attackers over the cliff.......:D

My old scout leader made it in Helnsburgh, we used to get the cubs to collect it.;)

Hehehe - am pretty easy to please, any good Bourbon, an Islay malt, Isle of Jura is pretty damn good too, but more usually my wee hip flask of Uncle Jack (Daniels).

Simon: that's a handy looking sigg flask you got there.

ooooooooooh heather ale yum,
not for the faint hearted though,...a couple of years back SWTSMBOBUI and I were camping on Skye the Slig Hotel site, I'm sure many here have visited.
Anyway off we pop to the bar for a slap up dinner and a wee snifta. My good lady well aware of heather ale and it's properties opts for a half with her dinner, followed by another afterward.
As it's a bit nippy out and we're enjoying the atmosphere and chatter in the bar (and I've had the second guinness and really fancy another) we decide to dally a while longer.
So up I stroll to the bar, order my pint and a third half of the aforementioned heather ale, the barmans response..........''oh dear'' and that was it.
No major dramas though infact no real effect (that was noticeable) until we got out side..oh boy did the fresh air hit her hard...:lmao:
Cheers Tim

SWMBO went mad when I brought it home for the first time - "Another water bottle, how many is that now?"

When I tried to justify it I realised that I really am a kit nut

58 patt. because it fits my Crusader mug.
Issue camelbac because it clips onto my Sabre(s) 45 & 60 - 100.
"ordinary" Sigg with sports top because it fits my bike.

Anyway its NOT a water bottle - its a whisky bottle! :beerchug:

Do you think I need help?

Tim,
What is heather ale and what on earth does "SWTSMBOBUI " mean. I think I got most of it.
She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed, The last 3 letters have me stumped.:)

HI Ian
BUI.. But Usually .....Is . honest guv!!

Heather ale is as best as I am aware a beer made from heather which has a horrible habit of creeping up behind you and removing your ability to walk and talk, unlike most ale it lulls you into a false sense of security as the effect (in my experience) does not require great quantities and is often on a timer switch.
Tastes great but might be aptly called Ninja Ale for it's stealthy mode of attack:rolleyes:

Cheers Tim

Aye it is a grand site although TOTALLY exposed, as I found out after driving all the way from Arisaig in august. Had a pub lunch, no heather ale, then drove all the way to the forrested sheltered site in Coylumbridge.;)

Just havin a wee bottle of Fraoch now, 5%.

Jack Daniels in a matching 6oz metal flask, sometimes take a couple of mixers but usually just sip it neat. Warms you up nicely this time of year.

:1244: :1244: All in moderation though of course :1244: :1244:

Rich

I am a big Jack fan.

Due to weatherspoons, I have been introduced to Knob Creek Bourbon, It is not cheap, but I'll be over in the corner with a smile on my face.

Like single malts, but also am a fan of Dewars, which is basically what the rest of the world drink instead of Bells. The Scots really do not like us!

As far as I can tell, that is a Sigg black oval bottle 6oz, with cup. Something to add to the ever growing list.

i love a nice wiskey in a hip flask

Can't stand whisk(e)y :yuck:

but for real cold nites a few hits of "Jägermeister" neat thick and warming with a kick.

Now you're talking. Last time I was down in the wood, a friend and I got through a whole bottle in about 2 hours. That was the longest 200yds walk back to the tent I've ever done :1244: :D

I'm also very partial to Old Monk Rum, but can't find any around here.
