I got married a year ago, I life in Ireland Dublin and we are in the process of discussing were we want to go, both of us agreed that Dublin is not a place we both want to raise our kids.

Now by looking at the current world wide situation including oil and so forth I'm having more and more the desire to litteraly "drop" out.
Take Latvia for excample (my wife is from this delightful little country) rural country side is awesome from many aspects and you could probably buy very cheap a little cottage and do your own River Cottage lifstyle and try to be as independend as possible.

I haven't obviously not thought this true and it is not something I have discussed with my wife, but I have a feeling that our lifes will be quite different from what they are right now, I have an ever growing feeling that we are entering a very dark time.

I disagree.
Too much money to be made from energy for it to go into terminal spin.
If we can pay, and we do, the price of fuel as it is today, that's enough money to be worthwhile spending what's needed to make alternative energy applications viable.

Do they have a health service in Latvia? My friend who moved out to Bulgaria found about the countrys lack of one the hard way.

(My other friend, who died because he could not afford healthcare, at least knew what to expect in the US...)
