Random camp shots.
(Snowshoes, btw, get "stood up" like everything else to a) keep from getting trod upon, and b) so you don't lose them.)

Pack (and my rear end...) Of course, pack up off the snow. No one would dump their pack in the snow!!

The fatwood from the earlier pic. (This is what I made my tinder pouch for, BTW.) It's on a closed cell sleeping pad piece that is worth it's weight in GOLD. I never go out in the bush without this piece of foam. In the good times, it keeps my bum warm. In harsher times, it might save some kidney problems (core temp stuff) if I have to spend an unexpected night out. It could also (and I've done this, BTW) be shoved into your pants to keep your lower back (kidneys again; it's all about the kidneys, man!) warm. Best winter kit ever! (You'll see it underneath most of my pack shots, if I'm not actually using it.)

If this^ doesn't look too fatwood-like, it was.

Wood prep high and dry on the ‘best piece of winter kit ever.’:

Thanks! :) I like that fence row, too. Kind of shows a bit of the bleak prairie perspective, yes?

I am fortunate to live here, but it's not without cost.

Right now, it's -15C, but there's a predicted high of around 0C. But there's a windchill of about -30C in the works for that 0 deg. That means a LOT of wind AND freezing rain. Yikes. Already, it's blowing up a storm, and man oh man, I wouldn't want to be out 'there' in this! People have literally have lost fingers on the way to out buildings. No exaggeration. One fella I know of lost some fingers to the fence he tried to follow to his barn.

A couple quick non bushcrafty pics from right now...

This is the wind pushing the snow under a normally tight door at work. There's no stopping the stuff.

And here's the current view out my office window:

And it hasn't really got going yet. :0
