winged visiter to my garden

this far north it always suprises me to come across little creatures like this doing battle with the elements and seemingly winning, it was laying it's eggs on a metel washing pole when i found it so i moved it to the wooden fence, a bit warmer.

Looks like a Garden Tiger moth, Arctia caja. If it is, the it'll have hairy caterpillars that'll feed on all sorts of garden plants.
