Howdy folks!
I saw Wilkinson Sword hatchets and... big axes ( :o ) in Focus the other day, and was wondering if they're worth buying. Grind was nice and thin, so I figured the little un wouldn't make a bad limbing or carving axe if the steel and temper's alright. They even had a wooden wedge and metal ring wedge, which I've never seen in these rubbishy overpriced when-one-stops-working-buy-another DIY chains. Still cost £15, which is about the same I've seen Bahcos go for, but it's nice to be able to pick out your own, make sure the handle and grind is ok, etc. I'm still angry they don't have any axe handles on their own :cussing: I actually had to buy a £3.99 hatchet at the market and cut the head off with my angle grinder (wanted to keep as much of the length as possible...) to get one.

So, any good?

Cheers
Pete

There was a review of one on here some time ago. It was really well written and thorough by somebody who uses axes a lot, an American IRC.

Anyway he liked the model he used and gave it a good review. The brand name in the States is Gerber or Fiskars and the handle is a different colour. Wilkinson Sword and Gerber are both Fiskars companies BTW.

Would that be the synthetic handled one? I think I recall a synthetic handled one getting reviewed that was labelled as WS/Gerber/Fiskars depending on where you got it but I've not seen one for a wooden-handled axe. Will look around though, cheers mate!

I've got a wilkinson sword axe Draven, had it for quite a while now, it has the nylon? haft which I know some people don't like, suits me fine but I only chop firewood with it. The head is in fact stamped 'Fiskars' and keeps a very very impressive edge. I've bound the grip with the stuff normally used on squash racket handles and find it extremely comfortable and secure even with cold hands. If you look on Fiskars website, it's on there...minus the Wilkinson Sword label....:D :D

Yes it was a synthetic handled one.

Cheers folks - I guess if they're as decent as the synthetic ones then it should be good, might pick one up next paycheque :)
