Very similar to the problem of hybridisation within the Rea deer and Sika deer population.
The only way ahead surly is to keep a pure bloodline going by isolating some pure blood Wildcat's as a breading stock, if not its down the Capercallie route and reintroduction.
I always wondered why one of the wildlife organisations SNH,SWT whoever never introduced some breading pairs to some “domestic cat free” forested islands of Scotland so we would always have a pure line breeding stock in the event of this, after all this interbreeding problem has been known about for many years now.

Same thing's happening in the N.E. of France with hybridisation of the wildcat populations. Banning cats within, say, a 20 mile radius of known wildcat sites & natural corridors, would be in my opinion the best solution but I suppose that would be denying the inhabitant's human right's to have cats.
