I'm just about to head off to sunny Edale in the Derbyshire Peak District today, and just wondered if anyone from here is going (apart from the obvious one!) http://spoonfest.co.uk/lineup/

There's some top carvers from Scandinavia, USA, UK and elsewhere demonstrating. Just hope my spoonage is worth getting out of the bag as there's some serious talent on site.

I've knocked a few up anyhow, which might pay for a T-shirt or a Bacon cob.

See you there if you are going.

Lost in the woods
But will it pay the £40 entrance fee to sit in a field for two days.
Have a good time Addo, too far away and a little expensive for me.
Nice spoons, I do mine to the same shapes as you.

I thought spoonfest was good value. Carving wood provided and some top carvers attending to get ideas from.

Sadly my father is in hospital so I am going to be spending most of my time with him and supporting my mum otherwise I would be poping along.

Just got back as I had to head home early but had a great time I'll stick a few pictures up later.
It £30 for the entrance fee if you booked early on, which I thought was a fair price as there was camping, a very large marquee, free wood, work areas, free tea and coffee, cake, free lectures and demonstrations by Sean Helman, Mike Abbot and the legend that is Jogge Sundquist, and workshops were only a tenner for 1.5 hrs of top instruction. The gallery in the hall was a big inspiration to me too with carvings from all over the world, some were just so complicated to work out how to make as well.

Just got back too, had a great time and it was terrific value, the weekend beforehand i went camping in the Cotswolds and it cost £40 to stay in a field for two nights, so if all I was paying for was the camping, then it was still good value. I don't think you can knock the price, Robin and Barn obviously put a lot of effort into the event and i don't think the motivation was financial.

Looks like Jogge was using something akin to a glut or cleave to split that log?.

it does look that way doesn't it? it'd be great to know the details of how he's going about it, looks like a useful technique

splitting with wooden wedges, and it's Fritiof not Jogge. Glad you all had a good time, we all had a blast and currently enjoying a three day course with Jarrod on mocataugan making, they are still all talking spoons and making spoons in the evening, six days worth and still going strong.

sorry for mis-identifying him Robin, it's very difficult to see the photo on a two inch phone screen:rolleyes:, looks like a good weekend was had by all, shame it's so far away or i would have come up myself, but couldn't justify the costs in the present financial climate, perhaps next time:)

Not a bargain, but a cheap way to learn a lot and enjoy hand-craft from a really experienced man.
