Hi I have my Grandads war issue packet watch and it does not work. I opened it up just now as it had a rattle and one of the cogs was off, I popped it back on, and wound it but it did not work, my guess is that the spring is kippered. also the plactic face needs replacing. Any ideas?

It is made by leonidas, on the back is the crows foot above G.S.T.P, above T33482, above XX

There is a shop in Chichester high street called perfect timing.(no affiliation) They were very good with my watch. Very professional shop and I'm sure they could help you.

Hi TN69,

Try the following who repaired a pocket watch for me that others returned as 'unrepairable'. He has reasonable rates and came highly recommend. Has a web page but you need to ring as they do things the old way.

Ryte Time Watch Repairs, P.O. Box 8362, Leicester, LE7 4WW.

I am sure you will not be disappointed with the result.

Cheers

It is made by leonidas,

I was offered a couple of examples of the Leonidas manufactured GSTP recently. One non working, the other fine.
The busted one was suffering form the typical problem with these,A broken balance pivot [These are not shock protected,The balance pivot breaks when the watch is dropped or knocked hard enough ...Hence wear it on a chain or length of cord].

the plactic face needs replacing.

The face will be Brass I think,Although I'm not sure if it's painted,or enamelled like earlier pocket watches.
Lots of spares around for these,It may be worth buying a broken version for spares [E-Bay].

Another point to mention is that the lume on the dials [Although now non effective in terms of glowing] contains Radium, and so needs to be handled respectfully.
