your better of knowing what you want to make so you can ask questions when you need to.
if you just want to use your knife to get better then try starting with tent pegs, you can then work your way up to spoons and cooking equipment from there.......

I started off by whittling wood shavings.
Eventually I ended up with things that were useful for something other than lighting a fire with.

I started whittling spoons, spatulas, forks and knives from whatever was lieing around. Now I'm onto wood spirits and starting dryads. Just go for it, keep your knife sharp and the blade short.
