I've always worn cotton combat trousers when outdoors but when wet these dry very slowly and become very heavy.

what trousers does everyone else wear? is there a trouser that is light weight, quick drying and natural?

I have breathable base trousers, breatheable outer/waterproof trousers but in the middle I wear these cotton ones which just sabotages the layering system.

thanks,
Matt.

Well up to now I've mainly worn old army lightweights. Polycotton mix, single left map pocket, etc. These I've worn for more years than I care to remember, so are hard wearing and simple. Got them wet many times and they dry out quick.
However just recently I have treated myself to the Forester trousers that Slamdunk had for sale in the classifieds which are a bit more expensive but seem to be the ones to aim for. Depends on budget and taste. Also there are some good deals on cheap quick drying camping shop trews, just watch out for not too much polyester in as does not mix well with bushy fires!!!
Hope these rambles are of some help?!
Good luck in the hunt,

I have a couple of pairs of issue lightweights which have been great, hard wearing and dry quick and also cheap, recently bought a pair of craghoppers kiwi trousers and got to say they were worth the money very comfortable to wear and double lined knees, have not got them wet but they should be fast drying

Craghopper Kiwis are comfy, reasonably hardwearing and quick drying. They are quite baggy in the leg and are a little noisy for stalking and wildlife watching though. You can find them cheap too. I just picked up a pair, new, in the bag off ebay for £23 inc. postage. There seen to be alot of grey pairs, they call the colour elephant. Mustn't have been too popular but is a nice bushy colour without looking military.
I'm also a big fan of the old British Army lightweights. Quiet, tighter in the leg and dry quickly. Not the most durable but when you can pick them up for a tenner....

Army lightweights, and M65's. TK Max were selling CH's at £9.99 a pair, but not my size :(

Don't trust the label's on Craghoppers! I generally use 34"-36" waist trousers but have found the 32" waist Craghoppers are just right! Also, if you like your combat's and the only issue is when they get wet, proof them with Nikwax Cottonproof, it works a treat. They do not suddenly become waterproof, but they do resist getting sodden for longer!

Snap. I found I take one size lower with Craghoppers......makes you feel good about your self. With Rohans I have a job getting my thighs into the legs, their outlet shop is down the road in Milton Keynes........they have a sale on at the moment.

I have only worn my one pair of Craggies half a dozen times cos I don't like the noise they make. I still prefer the Regatta trousers with all the zippy pockets, you can find them for £10 - £12 so it does'nt really matter if you make a mess of them. I always take the leg pocket off mine, I don't like stuff flapping against my leg when I'm out.

What noise are you getting from the Craghoppers,i've c. 10 pairs and mine seem quiet.
I like their fit and have a mixture of 32" and 34".

Prefer them to my regattas, but my favourite now are Fjallraven Greenlanders.

It sounds almost like wearing plasticised canvas, I find it annoying.........to be honest I did look at some others at the weekend down in the outlet shop in Swindon and the fabric felt a bit different. Maybe it was just the production run that this particular pair came from, but it has put me off them so I stick with Regattas.
