Where? Who? When?

Hello, I'm new to the site and also fairly new to bushcraft.

I am 15 going on 16 and I love bushcraft, but have nobody to share my passion with and not many places to practice it. I live in a fairly urban area and there isn't really any decent woods that I can walk to... And plus, even if I could I wouldn't want to do it alone.

There isn't any point in spending the little money I have on kit if I'll hardly ever get to use it, any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there CR great to see someone so young taking an interest. Listen end of the day buddy you only need a few trees to experience the outdoors, don't let being urban stop you. Get on google maps or take a few hours over the weekend hunt down some places local that you can bush craft etc. join some clubs like scouts maybe?

Never let anything stop you, if you really want it grab it by the ding dongs matey. Good luck and if you ever want a chat give me a mail always willing to listen.

Dave.

Check out public transport timetables too. it can be surprising where you can get to at minimal cost, even if it sometimes takes a lot longer than it would by car. That widens your area of opportunities.

uk mainly in the Midlands though
There are a lot of skills in which it is good to practice in the garden and you can do everything from practicng shelters, fire lighting or even carving and then you can be sure when out and about that you have the skills and knowledge to do your craft later. I hope this encourages you to practice skills and further your knowledge, you can also see what useful plants grow around your area, nettles for food and cordage, dandelions have loads of uses and can be found every where as well. If you practice in the garden as well, you are not far from other knowledge sources such as internet, books and you tube.

Remember that Ray Mears is from Purley and started with no kit.

What everyone else said, plus, google maps is your friend, you can get some surprising little pockets of woodland in urban areas.

The Sussex meets are fairly close to your Manor.

On networking.

Maybe you could start a group on here for the age of people you want to hang out with.

Also there are these guys

On kit.

Remember
1. you don't have to get all your kit at once
2. most of it is multipurpose (i.e. it can be used for Non Bushcraft activities)
3. you can make a lot of it

but here are some threads

excuse the "kids" reference but there's a good thread on kitting out kids here but it applies to any age http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111906

Additional r.e. multiuse kit.

I have a tent I bought age 14 that is still in use today at meets. The rucksack is nearly as old and has been around the world, though the side pockets are mostly gaffer tape now.

Swallow is right, look at local 'meets' and at your age get your parents involved to some degree. They will need to look at this forum so they hopefully understand its not some loony survivalist group.

Hi there, welcome to the forum, in fifteen going on sixteen too, and I live in a rural Ish area, so have a place to practice, unfortunately I'm a long way away from you, but it'd be great to talk to you and discuss things you could do :).

Hey, just turned 16 here too. I life in a fairly urban area, but am lucky to have a large woodland about 10-15 minutes drive away.
As others have said, practice in your garden. I do a lot of carving at come when i cant get out which can even be done inside if need be.
Feel free to pm me at any point, it would be great to talk to other younger people.
