Where to camp in Scotland ??

Hello all!! It's been a while since I've posted. Planning to go camping with couple of fellas next weekend and wondered if anyone knew some nice places in Scotland we could go and be ok to make a fire etc.

We are from Dundee but willing to travel a bit.

Can't wait to get back in the hammock!!

EVERYWHERE outside fenced land...
If you go by bus there are no parked cars to alert gameys & the nosey...
Angus glens are beautiful & not too far from you.
re fires, it's best to use a wee stove eg rocket, or at least light up sensibly & discreetly - wait till dark - having collected your wood first
- understandably country-dwellers are often genuinely worried re fires, & investigate unknown smoke...

If you want a campsite the red squirrel campsite in Glen Coe village allows fires (7am - 11pm) and has loads of pitches in the woods were a hammock would be fine.

The Red Squirrel!! That takes me back.

Used to stay there when down there for climbing, if the river was too high to doss under the bridge (which was often) or if the disabled toilet at the old visitor centre was occupied by others, that was the luxury doss that fitted two, just had to draw straws for who got the lavey seat side. The light was on a timer, which was a pain, but the hand drier was a luxury.

Glad to hear the Old Red Squirrel is still on the go, back in the day it was just the old barn done up as a basic bothy, but with good cooking facilities and it was low cost but ran the risk of hosting after pub parties.

No lochs but Linn of Dee up north from you can be real nice

Only the one lake in Scotland, but we have around 30,000 lochs of varying sizes and there's around 20,000 square miles where one could camp. As has been suggested above, Linn of Dee or the Derry lodge area right next to it are quite nice, easy enough to get to from Dundee.
