Where have all the woodies gone?

Ok, who threw the no wood pigeon switch?

Had 2 nice wood pigeons in 3 days with my air rifle in the local woods about 2 weeks ago when the woods were full of them, couldn't walk more'n a few metres without one of them clattering away from the treetops.

Went back there last night and tonight and there wasn't a woody to be seen, or heard. What happened? it's as if someone has thrown a switch that makes them disappear!

They are all down here , back field is full of them, just waiting for the horses to be taken and the field put down to hay for next winter then i shall be having a few of them, until then, i shall just have to content myself with the half dozen or so that visit the garden each day

They are still there. The extra leaf cover gives them protection from direct sight. They sit nice and still and listen to us lumbering around on the ground.
