Why is it US kit being put there though..... why not European equipment?

Because european kit is already in Europe and ready to go, they store yank stuff over here so that if they need to deploy over this side of the world in a hurry all they have to do is send bodies to pick up the kit already here.

I guess it's a modern bigger scale version of how the first nation people in the US used caches of food and kit to travel light in time gone by
