Dont forget what ever knife you get you prob wont be able to take it out of the uk :(

I've taken out Knives and Axes from the UK by plane and brought them back along with two large japaneese swords....so long as they are in your hold luggage there is no problem whatsoever with taking them on planes..... in fact the airlines are more worried about stove fuel in your pack....a mate of mine was called back to open his pack after check-in so they he could prove his sig bottle had water in it and not fuel.

Bam. :)

the first thing i thought of was "ooohh get a khukri from source"
seriously though, you can take knives in hold baggage fairly easily and without problems.
as long as the knife isn't a prohibited item (switchblade, sword cane, gravity knife)
you should be ok.
