What to use to reproof a Belgian army Mk2 Bivi bag?

I've just taken delivery of a £7 Belgian army surplus bivi bag it it has been suggested that it is a good idea to reproof this before use. The bag has what looks like a cotton top and a nylon, breathable base.

Should I just reproof it in the same way as a goretex jacket i.e. wash the whole thing in tech wash and proof it with TX wash in? Or would that not work with the cotton element of the bag?

Otherwise, should I just spray the nylon parts of the bag with Nixwax tent proofer?

Any advice is welcome.

I washed and proofed using Regatta tech wash and proofer on my two. I bought them to use as sleeping bag covers for my kids when under a tarp or in a single skin tent so I don't know if it worked.

The bottom material is 'waterproof' nylon and the top is a 'breathable' material called symptex or something similar.
